Cape Blanco Lighthouse
The 59 foot tower is the oldest standing tower in Oregon. The original lens was a first order, fixed Fresnel lens from Barbier and Fenstre of Paris. In 1936 the original lens was replaced with a new rotating fresnel lens from Henry LaPaute and a 120volt, 75rpm motor powered by a generator (electricity did not arrive on the Cape until the mid 1900s) was installed. This same lens and motor is the one you see today.

Port Orford Cedar (Chamaecyparis Lawsoniana) is a tall, slender, evergreen coniferous tree native to southwest Oregon and northwest California, having drooping flattened branches and opposite scalelike leaves with white markings. To learn more visit this US Forest Service page.

Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) which abounds in the area is Oregon's state tree.
